26th Annual Arborcrest Memorial Day Ceremony

Arborcrest Memorial Park held its 26th annual Memorial Day ceremony Sunday May 30 at 2 p.m., 2521 Glazier Way.

The ceremony began with the presentation of the flag by the local Boy Scouts of America, the Washtenaw County Honor Guard and the Ann Arbor City Fire Department Honor Guard.

Following the raising of the flag, several speakers came to the podium; among them was Congressman John Dingell (D-Mich.).

The ceremony was concluded with a 21-gun salute and the playing of Taps by Troop 27  Boy Scout Daniel LaCroix, 13, of Ann Arbor.

Ann Arbor resident Betty Flanders recites the poem Flanders Field Sunday at the Arborcrest Memorial Park's 26th annual Memorial Day ceremony. Flanders spoke about the importance of honoring veterans and how she often volunteers at the VA Hospital in Ann Arbor. "I've been on every floor of (the VA Hospital) many times. (The veterans) always thank me, but really it's me thanking them" Flanders said.
